in defense cuts that his running mate paul ryan voted for, he implied that would hurt suicide prevention programs for veterans even though the v.a. would be exempt from that, so i'm not sure he even understood what it was he was talking about. but at least he tried. at least veterans got a mention from him. even if it didn't make sense in policy terms. you do know that defense and veterans are two different -- at some point it should be possible with 40 days left to say veterans have to be more than just an applause line. right? you don't just get to use them for a photo op like the decommissioned battleship you used as a backdrop when you introduced paul ryan inexplicably in front of a battleship, another time when you didn't mention the war. even if you're not willing to talk about the war we are in that you would be taking over, veterans are not a hypothetical construct. the way they're treated is not an esoteric consequence of how we feel about them as a nation or how much military spending we have which is how mitt romney described it today. 40 days out from the election with the is

been complaining directly to the romney folks about paul ryan. why isn't he out there more? they accused the romney campaign of muzzling paul ryan to the point where ryan had to intercede personally, had to assure people, i know this for a fact, that he is not being muzzled. and not going out there. they feel they haven't used ryan enough. they feel the romney campaign has been too tentative attacking the president on the economy. let's face it, talking about a double-dip recession here. ben bernanke says we're not in recession. he basically put on the printing press of money because all the numbers are showing we're heading to recession. we have bad unemployment numbers. people are dropping out of the workforce. guess what? all we're talking about is mitt romney and bain capital all this nonsense. they believe that some of that, and you know, just so much you can blame on liberal bias. they believe some of that problem with not getting message out is romney's fault. that he is not out there. he is not pushing the agenda in terms of the weak economy and foreign policy as we

. whoever is budget director, paul ryan as vice president, and whoever is the treasury secretary, i would guess twice a day at the white house meeting with senior white house staff. then there would be the rest of the obama administration were i would hope that would be -- a whole bunch of other things could be done in departments that need to be improved from a policy point of view. my sense is that the romney people are very focused on that first six-nine months. if i were advising romney, i would say put them all at the white house, omb, and treasury at the beginning. they need the best, most experienced people to really make those decisions early and to work with congress. i would get a couple people who have served our are very familiar with congress. obviously cannot just dictate to congress. they will need to make that step happen very fast. a very strong white house chief of staff and budget director. it was impressive what they did. being able to get that stuff through, we look at history in retrospect, the fact that reagan did it was pretty startling. >> governor romney is also
